Joint Music Program
The Joint Music program is a vital and valuable part of the curriculum of Claremont McKenna College, Harvey Mudd College, Pitzer College, and Scripps College, providing them with performing ensembles and introductory music courses. The introductory music courses provide students with an appreciation an understanding of music. The Joint Music Program ensembles include the Claremont Concert Orchestra, the Concert Choir, and the Chamber Choir. The ensembles welcome qualified students from all of the Claremont Colleges. The liberal arts ideal of music as an integral part of the general curriculum is evidenced by students receiving academic credit for participation in large music ensembles as well as for applied lessons. Through the ensembles, students gain knowledge of a variety of repertoire through its stylistic and technical study, lecture, rehearsal, and performance. In performance, the re-creation of a historically significant artistic work offers the student a positive aesthetic experience, and adds a quality experience not available otherwise. Participation in the choirs and orchestra requires audition.
Other Music Programs in Claremont
Both Scripps College and Pomona College offer a major in Music, with a wide array of available courses.
