RLST 169 CM - Christianity and Politics in East AsiaThis course analyzes the political, cultural, and economic impact of and resistance to Western Christian missions, colonialism, and imperialism in China, Japan, and Korea from 1800 to the present vis-à-vis nationalist revolts for and against Christianity in Japan (Shimabara, Unchurch Movement), China (Taiping, Boxer Rebellion, Kuomintang-KMT, Maoism), and Korean (Buddhist, Japanese Imperialism, Minjung). It will give particular attention to the growing political influence of Christianity in China and Korea.
