FREN 154 SC - The 18th-Century Novel: Experimentations in Form

The 18^th century in France marked one of the great periods in the development of the novel. The vitality characteristic of this genre was due to a great extent to the novelists’ awareness of narrative techniques and to their willingness to experiment with diverse modes of novelistic form. In this course, problems of narration will be studied in the works of L’Abbe Prevost, Voltaire, Diderot, Rousseau, Laclos, and Sade.
