SCI131 CM - Neurobiology of Eating and Eating DisordersThis course addresses the biological basis of eating behavior under healthy conditions and in pathological states. Topics include energy balance; gut-brain communication; pleasure derived from eating; developmental changes; eating-related metabolic disorders; obesity; and eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. This course covers research on humans and non-human animals and examines these topics at the levels of behavior, whole-body physiology, neural circuits, and molecular events within individual cells.
Prerequisites: SCI 031LACM and SCI 031LBCM , or by permission of the instructor
