Major Requirements

The major requires a minimum of fifteen courses, in addition to the college’s general education requirements. The following courses (or equivalents), are required:

1. Core Requirement (7-8 courses)

2. Topic Courses (6 courses): one from each of the following 6 groups:

3. Senior Thesis:

EEP majors must complete either a one- or two-semester senior thesis in Biology or X 190 CM - Senior Thesis. For further information, see General Education Requirements and Senior Thesis in Science .

Note:

The introductory courses in biology and chemistry may also be completed by both semesters of the Accelerated Integrated Science Sequence.

Substitutions for EEP Major Requirements

Students not planning advanced work in science may substitute environmental science and/or policy courses for CHEM 014L JS -CHEM 015L JS . Students must consult with the program advisor as to the appropriateness of substituted courses.
Students interested in additional work in ecology may substitute appropriate advanced biology courses for ECON 086 CM , GOVT 050 CM , or GOVT 121 CM .

Prerequisites for EEP Majors

The following courses are prerequisites for major requirements (and may be counted for general education requirements):

General Education Requirements for EEP Majors

For the general education requirement in the social sciences and the humanities, EEP majors must complete appropriate courses in all four fields of the social sciences (economics, government, history, and psychology), together with courses in two of the four fields of the humanities (literature, philosophy, religious studies, and literature in a foreign language). Student Learning Outcome of the Program in Environment, Economics, and Politics (EEP) Major

EEP students should achieve an understanding of biology, economics, and government policy similar to, if not quite as extensive as, majors in these disciplines.
