2. Jewish History (1 course)

One course focusing on the history of a particular period or geographical area critical to the development of Jewish history, literature, and thought selected from:

• HIST055 CM - The Middle East: From Muhammad to the Mongols
• HIST056 CM - The Middle East: From the Ottomans to the Present
• HIST073 CM - The Rise of Modern Europe, 1750 to the Present
• HIST081 CM - Modern America, 1865 to Present
• HIST104 CM - Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages: 284 - 888 CE
• HIST129 CM - London and Paris in the 19th Century
• HIST133A CM - Late Imperial Russian History, 1861-1917
• HIST146 CM - History of Germany, 1740 to the Present

1. To study the history, literature, and culture of the Jewish people.
2. To understand the intersections between Jews and non-Jews and between Jewish society and the societies and cultures of the peoples with whom Jews have lived.

The student learning outcomes for the Jewish Studies sequence are:

1. Students will be able to discuss the history, texts, beliefs, and practices of the Jewish people.
2. Students will be able to explain the historical development of the Jewish people in various time periods and places.
3. Students will be able to analyze the intersections between Jews and the major political, social, and cultural developments that influenced their life and development.
4. Students will be able to analyze multiple sources of information (e.g., historical, literary, religious) that describe and seek to construct the Jewish experience.
