PHIL035H CM - Introduction to Philosophy: Science, Technology, and Human Values

This honors introductory course presents an intensive philosophical overview of the relationship between the pursuit of scientific knowledge, the development of technologies, and the expression of human values. Topics vary by semester but might include: What justifies scientific reasoning? How do we measure the strength of evidence and update our theories accordingly? Can observations be truly objective? To what extent is scientific inquiry affected by social and cultural values? How does the explosion of technology both facilitate and hinder the scientific method? How can we guide technological developments to be more just and fair? This honors introductory course approaches these questions at an accelerated pace, requiring more independent learning.
