SPAN183 CM - Latin American Series in the Age of Netflix

The presence of series produced in Latin America is strong in the era of the Internet and of streaming television. In this course, we study several series of the region by exploring its “poetics” (the formal elements that distinguish the series from other forms of visual storytelling) and its “politics” (the most relevant social and cultural themes for this specific format). We will also read scholarly works that analyze these series. The course, which deals with various social, political, and cultural issues, poses the following question “What these series are telling us about contemporary Latin American societies?”
