GOVT178 CM - International LawThis introduction to core principles of international law examines the rules governing relations among states and other global actors including international organizations. International politics takes place in a context of rules that are increasingly important in a rapidly changing and interconnected world. Where do these rules come from? Do states respect them? And can states be punished for breaking them? We will explore the role these rules play in maintaining order and peace in the international system and addressing issues like territorial conflicts, the use of armed force, international human rights, international migration and refugees, the environment, and international crimes.
