LIT154 CM - What is World LiteratureWhat does the “World” in World Literature entail? This course is intended as an introduction to some general problems in literature of the past two millennia. In a more specific sense, it is concerned with how these general problems get expressed in distinct literary traditions. Focusing especially on Europe and India, this course will counterpose poetic and theoretical works to explore how the very work of comparison and critique imbricated in world literature is a function of culture, history and geography. This course is for anyone who is serious about literature in all its local, linguistic and philosophical detail.
