SCI010L CM - The Codes of Life

This course explores current issues in the life sciences using a combination of laboratory and computational methods. Among the questions that students will explore are: How prevalent is antibiotic resistance in our communities? Can CRISPR, a modern genetic engineering technique, be used to eliminate some diseases? How are we related to Neanderthals and what can that tell us about the origin of modern humans? Students will learn foundational principles in the sciences as well as programming in Python. Enrollment is by permission of the instructor. This course satisfies the laboratory science general education requirement.  Not open to students who have taken CSCI040 CM, CSCI005 HM, or equivalent. The course meets each week for 3 hours in the classroom and 3 additional hours in lab.
