BIOL 064L JS - The Living Sea

Over three quarters of the earth’s surface is covered in oceans, and much of the world’s life exists in the seas. Moreover, humans are having a greater impact on sea life than in any other time in human history. This course will explore the unique habitats of the marine environments and the plants and animals that live there. The course will look at the chemical, physical, and geological interactions that create the habitats and enable organisms to live where they do. Finally, the course will take a look at human interaction with these habitats. Fisheries management, pollution, aquaculture, and whaling policies will be among the topics covered. This course has a laboratory fee.
