HIST151 CM - Jane Austen’s BritainThis course uses Jane Austen’s novels and other primary and secondary sources to explore Britain and the British Empire between 1760-1830. Major themes include: the importance of slavery in the American colonies, including the West Indies; the impact of the American and French Revolutions and Napoleonic Wars; the status of women and the role of family in the making of British identity; the articulation of psychological and moral self-awareness through the domestic novel.
