                  GOVT103  CM - State and Local Politics and PolicyIn the United States, the vast majority of political decision making takes place at the state and local levels of government, with far-reaching consequences for Americans’ lives. The first half of this course focuses on the institutions and processes of state and local government, including governors, legislatures, courts, parties, interest groups, elections, direct democracy, and federalism. The second half focuses on the role of state and local governments in making policy in areas such as education, welfare, health care, criminal justice, immigration, and the environment.
