HIST148C CM - Representing Race and Sex in Britain and the EmpireThis seminar explores how race, ethnicity, regional difference plus sex and gender were seen as the natural building blocks of national identity in Britain and the British global world, 1600 to the present. The course provides a solid foundation in British and imperial history as it examines how ideas about identity changed over time and facilitated the acquisition-and eventual loss-of a global empire.
