HIST119 CM - Women and Politics in America

This course will analyze the history of American women in political life, broadly defined, from the mid-19^th century to the present. Following a historical chronology, we will consider the debate over the 15^th amendment, the movement for female suffrage. Reforms of the Progressive era, activism through church and community groups, the New Deal, the Civil Rights movement, the women’s movement, and women officeholders today. Throughout we will consider women’s political work as legislators, public policy makers, reformers, and activists. Previously HIST175 CM.
