   |  GOVT175  CM - Politics and Law in American SportsIn this course, several political and legal issues or circumstances connected with sports will be examined, including: Supreme Court decisions (Tollson, Floyd v. Kuhn, Radovich v. NFL, etc.), civil rights concerns, economic-political issues, labor laws, unionization, strikes and lockouts, equal protection and integration on the basis of sex and race, the political and legal aspects of franchises and stadium building, regulations and investigations concerning gambling and the use of performance-enhancing drugs, House and Senate investigations, local and state legislation, issues of interstate commerce, presidential politics, the political use of sports by the military, anti-trust considerations, the Mitchell report, federal legislation, and similar issues.
