PHIL141 CM - Free Will, Responsibility, and Determinism

This course focuses on philosophical issues concerning freedom of the will, responsibility and determinism. Do we have a free will? Is free will compatible with determinism? What are we doing when we deliberate about what to do? Would it make sense to believe determinism is true and yet still deliberate about what to do? What is it to hold someone responsible? Is this compatible with determinism? What is determinism? Is it true? Can punishment be justified in a manner consistent with reflection on the nature of freedom of the will, responsibility, and determinism?
