COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Policies

The College made the following policy changes in response to the 2019-2020 COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.

Fall 2020 Academic Calendar

CMC will adopt changes to the Fall 2020 academic calendar:

  • First day of classes - Monday, August 24
  • Saturday instructional days - Saturday, September 12 and November 14
  • Fall break cancelled
  • Senior Thesis due date - Monday, November 23
  • Final examinations - Monday-Friday, November 30-December 4

See Academic Calendar  for more information.

Transfer Credit Policy

CMC will make a temporary exception to the “distance learning” provision described in #7 in its transfer credit policy and permit courses offered online elsewhere though the 2020-2021 academic year, including the summer of 2021, to be eligible for transfer credit. All other transfer credit policies remain unchanged. Current students must have all transfer courses pre-approved to qualify for this exception. Students may request transfer credit approval by filing out the transfer credit approval request form after conferring with the appropriate department or program chair regarding course equivalency at CMC.

See Statement of Academic Policy VIII: Transfer Credit and Off-Campus Programs  for more information.

Foreign Language General Education Requirement

Students earning an AP or IB score in the 2020 examinations satisfying the foreign language general education requirement must demonstrate commensurate foreign language competency through a placement examination before the credit may be issued. Students who fail to place into the fourth college semester (or above) will not earn credit from their AP/IB exam and will not satisfy the foreign language general education requirement.

See Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate Credit and Placement  and General Education Requirements  for more information.

Overloading

In the fall 2020 semester, students who do not qualify to overload based on the normal requirements described above may still qualify to overload if their cumulative grade point average is at least 10.50.

See Statement of Academic Policy III: Registration  for more information.

International Relations Major Study Abroad Requirement

International Relations majors in the class of 2022 are granted an exemption from the normal study abroad requirement, but are strongly urged to find semester-long study abroad opportunities if possible. If semester-long study abroad opportunities are not feasible, international relations majors are urged to apply for a summer experience or internship abroad through the Soll Center for Student Opportunity. International Relations majors in the classes of 2021 and 2023 who have not studied abroad may appeal to the International Relations program director for an exemption from the study abroad requirement.

See International Relations Major  for more information.

Honors in Science

Major grade point average calculations for departmental honors in all Keck Science majors will exclude grades from coursework taken in the spring of 2020.

See Honors in Science  and Honors in Biology  for more information.
