LIT080 CM - 19th-Century American FictionA study of the short stories and novels of selected authors, including Irving, Hawthorne, Poe, Twain, Melville, and James. Particular attention will be given to the tension in these works between domesticity and the adventure far from home. We will also explore the various ways in which the past intrudes upon characters’ new worlds.
